Rannar Loans ("we", "us", "our") is a credit assistance business operating under the Australian Credit Licence of [Licensee] (Australian Credit Licence 384324). We take the privacy of the people we help seriously. This policy explains what personal and credit information we collect, why we collect it, how we hold it, who we share it with and how you can access or correct it or make a complaint. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and, for credit-related information, Part IIIA of the Privacy Act and the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code.
1. What we collect
To arrange finance for you we usually need to collect:
- Identity details – your name, date of birth, address history, contact details and copies of identification documents such as a driver licence, passport or Medicare card.
- Financial information – income, employment or business details, assets, liabilities, living expenses, bank statements, payslips, tax returns and business financials.
- Credit information – your credit report and credit score from a credit reporting body, repayment history on existing loans, and details of defaults, enquiries or hardship arrangements.
- Property and loan details – the property you are buying or refinancing, contracts, valuations and details of your existing loans.
- Information about others – co-borrowers, guarantors, dependants or a spouse, where relevant to your application. If you provide information about someone else, please make sure they know about this policy.
- Website and enquiry data – details you enter into our contact, booking, calculator or referral forms, and technical data such as your IP address, browser and the pages you visit (see "Cookies and analytics" below).
Some of this information may be sensitive information (for example, health information if you are applying for hardship or insurance). We only collect sensitive information with your consent and where it is reasonably necessary.
2. How we collect it
We collect information directly from you – in person, by phone, by email, through our website forms and through secure document-collection tools. With your consent we also collect information from third parties, including credit reporting bodies, your employer or accountant, lenders you currently or previously borrowed from, valuers, real estate agents, solicitors and conveyancers, and public registers.
3. Why we collect and use your information
We collect, hold and use your personal and credit information to:
- assess whether a credit product is unsuitable for you and identify products that meet your requirements and objectives, as required by the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (Cth);
- verify your identity and comply with anti-money-laundering, counter-terrorism financing and other legal obligations;
- prepare and submit loan applications to lenders and manage your loan through to settlement and beyond;
- communicate with you about your application, appointments, loan reviews and rate changes;
- tell you about products, services and market updates we think may interest you (you can opt out at any time – see section 7);
- improve our website and services, and meet our record-keeping, audit and insurance obligations.
4. Credit reporting
With your consent we may obtain your credit report from one or more credit reporting bodies (CRBs) to assess your application, and lenders we submit your application to will do the same. The CRBs we and our lender panel commonly use are Equifax (equifax.com.au), illion (illion.com.au) and Experian (experian.com.au). Each CRB has its own privacy policy explaining how it manages credit information, including your right to request that your information not be used for direct-marketing pre-screening and to place a ban period if you believe you are a victim of fraud. We do not disclose credit information to a CRB ourselves; lenders may do so as credit providers.
5. Who we disclose your information to
We disclose your information only where necessary to provide our services or where the law requires it, including to:
- lenders, lenders' mortgage insurers and other credit providers you ask us to approach, and their service providers;
- our aggregator/licensee, [Licensee], which provides our licensing, compliance, software and commission-processing services;
- valuers, conveyancers, solicitors, accountants, financial planners and real estate agents involved in your transaction;
- referral partners who introduced you to us (limited to confirming that you have proceeded), where you were referred;
- our IT, document-storage, email, customer-relationship and booking software providers, on a confidential basis;
- regulators, courts, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, our professional indemnity insurer, auditors and law enforcement where required or authorised by law.
6. Overseas disclosure
Some of the software providers we use store data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States, the European Union, Singapore and New Zealand. Where we use such providers we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle your information in accordance with the APPs. We do not otherwise send your information overseas unless you ask us to (for example, when dealing with an overseas employer or bank as part of your application).
7. Marketing
We may send you newsletters, market updates and information about our services by email, SMS or phone. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, by replying STOP to an SMS, or by contacting us. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
8. How we hold and protect your information
Your information is stored in secure, access-controlled cloud systems and encrypted document storage. We use multi-factor authentication, restrict access to staff who need it, and keep paper to a minimum. We retain records for at least seven years after our relationship ends, as required by our licensing and taxation obligations, and then securely destroy or de-identify them. No system is completely secure; if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by law.
9. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, keep forms working and understand how visitors use the site. We may use analytics and advertising tools such as Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta (Facebook) Pixel and Microsoft Clarity, which set their own cookies and may collect your IP address and browsing behaviour in accordance with their own privacy policies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, although some parts of the site may not work as intended. Our online calculators run in your browser and do not store the figures you enter unless you choose to submit them to us.
10. Accessing and correcting your information
You may ask us at any time for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading. We will respond within 30 days. We do not charge for a request to correct information; if an access request is unusually large we may charge a reasonable fee for our time, which we will tell you about first. If we refuse a request we will explain why in writing and how you can complain about that decision.
11. Complaints
If you are concerned about how we have handled your information, please contact us first using the details below. We will acknowledge your complaint within seven days and aim to resolve it within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may take your complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), a free and independent external dispute-resolution scheme: phone 1800 931 678, email info@afca.org.au, website afca.org.au, or GPO Box 3, Melbourne VIC 3001. You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the law or in our business. The current version is always available on this page.
